Dr. Aigerim Shilibekova is a Full Professor of Strategy and Technology at University Canada West and is completing a second PhD in Educational Technology and Learning Design at Simon Fraser University. She was the founding Director of UCW’s Centre for Teaching Excellence and has led faculty development with educators across Canada, Europe, and Asia. She was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, participated in programs at the Derek Bok Center, and later earned its certification in teaching and learning strategies for higher education.
Her current work examines expertise, professional judgment, and human agency in AI-mediated education. She leads the Agency, Autonomy and Participation Collab Lab within AI in Education at Oxford University, has contributed to MIT’s AI + Open Education Initiative, and designs and delivers case-based AI pedagogy workshops internationally.
She developed CARE (Cultural Awareness, Accessibility, Relevance, Equity), an inclusive course-design framework, which she presented at AERA 2026. Her chapter on AI-mediated professional development appears in a 2027 Routledge volume, her work on faculty expertise was selected for HESA’s 2026 AI-CADEMY: Canada Summit for Post-Secondary Education, and she served on the expert panel for the 2026 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report: Teaching and Learning Edition.
Across these strands, one principle connects her work: AI literacy is the starting point, and human agency is the goal.
