This annual event continues to strengthen ties between colleagues in different disciplines, it becomes increasingly important to keep the channels of communication open. This event is one such channel, and we hope that the energy of everyone who teaches here will carry the colloquium forward from year to year, in the spirit of collaboration and shared purposes.
Welcome the the 22nd Annual Teaching Practices Colloquium (TPC)
This year at the 22nd Annual Teaching Practices Colloquium the theme is Putting People First! Human-Centred Learning and Pedagogies of Belonging. With the rapid advance of technology in the classroom and workplace, coupled with ever-increasing high-volume, high-efficiency expectations placed on teaching, it is important to remember that humans are at the centre of the learning process. This colloquium is an opportunity to explore what it means to put people first in our teaching and learning practices. We welcome presentations and posters that highlight approaches fostering care, connection, and inclusion in classrooms, programs, and communities. Whether through course design, assessment practices, experiential learning, mentorship, technology use, or community-engaged pedagogy, we encourage faculty to share how they cultivate spaces of belonging that affirm and empower learners. Some broad examples of questions this colloquium hopes to begin to answer include:
- What does it mean to be a human-centred educator?
- What strategies or tools help us achieve belonging and human-centred learning?
- What can in-class case studies and practical learning experiences tell us about human centered learning?
